Introduction

Earlier you learned about the five theories of leadership. Now you will turn your thoughts more to the practice of leadership rather than the theory of leadership, and you will explore leadership in terms of how it relates to being an American and living in the United States.
 

To start, watch the video above of two past U.S. Presidents—Democrat Bill Clinton and Republican George W. Bush—briefly sharing their thoughts on leadership. Take notes on a sheet of paper as you watch, then answer the questions below.

Note: In his interview, President Bush makes a reference to the modern Japanese government. This is because his interview is excerpted from a longer interview that also addresses U.S–Japan relations.
